Metro Detroit + Polonia + Art = My Roots!
Tygodnik Polski - The Polish Weekly
During my senior year of high school and junior year of college, I was an intern at the Metropolitan Museum of Design Detroit (MM-O-DD).
My first internship at MM-O-DD introduced me to nonprofit organizations and what it means to work in a museum. I worked directly under the guidance of the museum's founder and president, gaining experience across several roles. I worked on social media and email campaigns, was a production assistant for an exhibition opening and fashion show, installed an exhibit at the Belle Isle Aquarium (the oldest aquarium in North America!), completed miscellaneous administrative tasks, and assisted media relations initiatives by drafting and distributing press releases.
My return to MM-O-DD began after I became a member of the Friends of Polish Art (FPA), a cultural and educational arts organization in Metro Detroit. Aware of the museum’s annual International Design Exhibition, I reached out to my supervisor, curious if they would be interested in showcasing the rich Polish-American cultural landscape in Detroit for 2025. In early 2024, I facilitated a meeting at the museum with FPA representatives, and the rest fell into place.
